The Committee on Intellectual Freedom

The Intellectual Freedom Committee strives to insure complete access to library media centers and materials; educates school librarians, administrators, and the general public about the nature and importance of intellectual freedom in the pursuit of learning; monitors, advises, and aids in situations of infringement of freedom of access to information; encourages members to report challenges to intellectual freedom; and recognizes advocates of intellectual freedom. The committee also promotes, selects, and awards the FAME Intellectual Freedom Scholarship to a Florida high school student annually.

ALA Library Bill of Rights

FAME supports and endorses the ALA Library Bill of Rights, viewing all libraries as forums for information and ideas, and follows ALA policies to guide our services and collections. FAME works with ALA to report any challenges or bans on books or materials in Florida's school libraries. If your school or district experiences a challenge on library materials, please notify the Intellectual Freedom chair,  Sarah Reckenwald. You may also find resources to aid you at the ALA Office of Intellectual Freedom site and AASL's Intellectual Freedom site.
